A pixelated design approach to holiday living
Embrace Nature
When families come for a holiday visit, they look for relaxation and refreshment; when an individual comes, he looks for a meditating weekend for self-reflection; and for teenagers and kids, they look for fun and excitement. Embracing nature is the best for any types of visitor to experience true calm and at the same time encountering surprise in nature. Architectural settings that promote a healthy and ecological coexistence between people and nature is the core of this proposal.
Pixelated (Village) Typology
It is time to revisit traditional holiday building typology such as hotel/hostel in large and iconic structures where bedrooms at stacked levels and with packed recreational functions set aside. Human dialogue with nature and function diversity is limited. In pixelated (village) typology, the living and functions units were designed as a network of small-scale units that interweaved with nature. It creates spaces of diversity with the notion that elements of surprise are able to be encountered at each corner and it arouses curiosity to discover the unforeseen. Let’s imagine: a little cafe hidden in a corner; an outdoor spa is behind tall vegetation; a flora garden is right next to your living dorm.
Respect and response to site context
By being “small and porous” that superimpose to a network of path (vein), the blocking follows and sit well naturally on the sloping geology that minimises the impact to the existing landscape. With the network of paths, the architecture forms the dialogue with the immediate surroundings, blending in with the flora/fauna and geography, while providing an element of uniqueness. The new development connects to the existing clubhouse and golf courses by the main midrib - the flora route.
