Church Design in Tai Po, NT
Un-disclosed client
Architectural Design (idea, concept, feasibility, and schematic design)
Total GFA: 16,000 s.f.
The design seeks to explore the church as a contemporary vessel for a vibrant community within a comprehensive development. The design brief demands rich programs filling the year calendar. The area breakdowns of the areas should consider the church operation.
Instead of a single Main Hall, we proposed an area breakdown with due consideration to rich programs. More well-equipped activity rooms for classes, a chapel for small group events, a cafe and library for more casual groups, and a children's prayer room for different age groups. The main hall of 4,000 s.f. still supports the Sunday prayer of 280 people at a time.
For prayer and contemplation, the interplay of light is a key to transcend the ambience of church hall design, by diffused light washed from skylight into the play of forms. The church facade design is a matter of architectural presence of a modern church. Its double volume MAIN HALL is recognized as a signifying mass of the modest church design.
